Our Story
Food that is loved & nurtured
We are the Diehl's & we are so excited that you are interested in joining our community! We were married in 2021 & had our first child soon after and then what felt like even sooner after that, we welcomed our second healthy babe to this crazy chaos. It all started when I came home one day with a box of baby chicks & a heat lamp & my wonderful husband worked on the weekends and evenings to put together the most adorable coop for my little flock. What happened after that is what we like to call chicken math & if you know you know that 5 chicks turned into about 70 very quickly. So we decided there had to be a better way than keeping all of these birds in a small pen and relying on the many feed bags we were buying each month. My husband began researching what exactly pasture raised means and how we could make it happen. He built his first mobile coop and we were able to raise our first batch of 30 meat birds completely on grass with supplemented feed mostly for scratch & entertainment & we fell in love with the process. Not only were our birds delicious & unlike any food we had ever eaten, but we fell in love with involving our family in the raising of these animals and teaching our children to be grateful for where their food comes from. Seeing chickens foraging and scratching around in the grass on a beautiful sunny day is one of the most beautiful sights & I am thankful that the food we raise gets to live a species appropriate lifestyle instead of being confined to cages & concrete floors. Soon after the chickens, I found two Kune Kune piglets on Facebook that I knew were going to be coming home with me. We had talked about pigs for awhile & after research ended up with Kune Kune's for a multitude of reasons, but that is a very long story for another blog post! Again, we fell in love with how docile & tame these animals were & we loved giving them the opportunity to be out in pasture & live a life of total comfort. From the animals, the rest is history. Sourdough, canning, gardening, & everything in between. We hope to instill in our children that food requires work & preparation & that there is a lot more that goes into it than picking up your weekly grocery order at Target or Walmart(which by the way I am still 100% a fan of!). For all of these reasons, we have decided to share our products with you & hope that they can inspire you to have some gratitude for their creation as well.
